Rain is a natural phenomenon common to most people on the planet. Everyone has long been accustomed to the fact that the main thing in this case is to take an umbrella with you and not get wet. Many have heard that rains can be colored, although not everyone had to deal with such phenomena in practice. Seeing this phenomenon, not a single person has remained indifferent: after all, such rain can not only wet, but also dye clothes, skin in different colors. And this is really happening. Where do the colored rains come from, and how often do they show themselves?
Color rain statistics
Red rain fell on April 9, 1970 in Greece - much to the displeasure of the locals. Almost no one had any medieval belief that strange rainfall was a bad sign, but everyone was unhappy with shirts in red spots. Science easily explained the mysterious natural phenomenon - it turns out that small particles of red soil were picked up in the Sahara desert, and then they migrated north to Greece with air currents, where they fell as an unpleasant precipitate. Such phenomena are very rare, but they still occur. So, in 1959, in the city of Dunstable, pink precipitation fell, which accompanied a severe thunderstorm. An examination showed that the air carried particles of pollen. And in the French Alps in 1972 there was blue snow. The culprit again turned out to be the Sahara desert, where this time a bluish-colored ground, which was of mineral origin, was raised.
Color precipitation and industry
In recent years, rainfall of an unusual color scares people no less than in the Middle Ages. Only they are not associated with curses and not bad signs, but with the work of various enterprises and chemical emissions. In some regions of our country, people have long been accustomed to periodically falling color precipitation, and are well aware that they are not of natural origin. This situation is not unique for all occasions.
The natural origin of colored rain
Colored rain in any case is water mixed with some kind of additive. Often this supplement has a completely natural origin. The already mentioned soil particles or pollen can be raised into the atmosphere during strong winds, and then fall out in the form of precipitation. If the wind is very strong, or a tornado is observed, heavier objects can also be lifted into the air: fish along with water, spiders and other insects, other living and non-living objects. As a result, everything falls in the form of rain, surprising people. Chalk, sand of any color, coal dust - anything can get into the atmosphere, creating color precipitation.
The story of color rains?
The description of white, yellow, red, and any other rains can be found both in ancient and medieval literature. Therefore, this phenomenon has always accompanied people. Homer, Plutarch, and many other famous people who left behind written evidence, indicated the occurrence of such precipitation - the phenomenon occurred for natural reasons.Medieval chroniclers of all countries have also repeatedly described such phenomena. It really happened in the pre-industrial era - although, without a doubt, the current environmental situation only added problems and such cases became more frequent. Normal rain may now fall, but the traces after it will turn out to be colored - due to spilled gasoline and oil products.
As a long history has shown, the red rains make the strongest impression. They are associated with shed blood, near war, other disasters that have already been, or are only just foreseen. Red rains fall out of color most often, scientists still can not clearly say why. This rain may stain due to dust particles of clay or iron-containing rocks, due to red sands raised into the sky. Once in India, for two months it rained red, with changing winds and the inability to establish their cause. Studies have shown that the disputes of local lichens are to blame, which especially bred in those months.
Rains of any color can be explained as soon as scientists increase the droplets of water under a microscope and establish what exactly stained the water. Natural, anthropogenic factors - anything can play a role in this matter. Colored rains fell in the past, they fall today, because water is a universal solvent, and small particles easily rise into the sky with gusts of wind.
